How does a solar system work?

Working process of solar power generation system

  • Solar panels: They convert sunlight into direct current.

  • Inverter: It acts like a converter, converting the direct current generated by solar panels into the alternating current used in our daily lives.

  • Energy storage battery: It is like a large-capacity power bank that can store excess electricity for use at night or on cloudy days.

Connection method

The connection method of these devices is generally like this:

  1.  Solar panels are connected to inverters: The direct current generated by solar panels is connected to the input of the inverter through wires.

  2. Inverter is connected to the grid or load: The inverter outputs the converted alternating current, which can be connected to the home circuit for use by household appliances, or connected to the grid to sell excess electricity to the grid.

  3. Energy storage battery is connected to the inverter: The energy storage battery is usually also connected to the inverter. When the amount of solar power generated is greater than the power consumption, the excess power will be stored in the battery; when the power consumption is greater than the amount of power generated, the power in the battery will be released to supply power.

Working Principle

  1.  Daytime power generation: Solar panels convert sunlight into direct current during the day and input it into the inverter.

  2. Inverter conversion: The inverter converts direct current into alternating current, part of which is used by the family and the other part is stored in the energy storage battery.

  3. Discharge at night or on cloudy days: When there is no sunlight or the power consumption is large, the energy in the energy storage battery will be converted into alternating current through the inverter for family use.

In simple terms, a solar power generation system is like a small power plant, with solar panels as generators, inverters as transformers, and energy storage batteries as reservoirs. They work together to convert solar energy into electrical energy for our use.
Why do we need energy storage batteries?

  • Improve energy utilization: Storing excess electricity generated during the day can be used at night or on cloudy days, reducing dependence on the power grid.

  • Improve system stability: Energy storage batteries can smooth the output of the power generation system and improve the stability of the system.

  • Improve system reliability: When the power grid fails, energy storage batteries can provide backup power.
